Account takeover

OTP / SIM swap

A caller posing as a bank or courier asks for an OTP, then drains UPI, wallets, or linked cards.

Warning signs

  1. 01

They call about a failed delivery, a KYC update, or a suspicious transaction you did not make.

  2. 02

They ask you to read out an OTP, or to share the SMS that just arrived.

  3. 03

Your phone suddenly loses network while they say the SIM is being “verified”.

  4. 04

UPI or wallet alerts start for payments you did not start.

  5. 05

They already know the bank name, which is not proof they work there.

No bank, courier, or wallet will ever ask you to read an OTP aloud.
