Payment fraud

Merchant QR switch

A swapped QR at a shop or parking lot sends the payment to a mule account.

How Scam Works?

This conversation is invented. It shows the pattern so you can recognise it. It is not a real message, and nothing here should be replied to or paid.

Demonstration

At a shop counter

Printed QR taped over the shop sticker

  1. Scam message

That code failed. Scan this one. If it shows a different name, ignore it and pay.

  2. What you might say

The name is not the shop.

  3. Scam message

It is our partner account. Enter the PIN, the refund will reverse if needed.

Receiving money on UPI does not need your PIN. A QR that asks for a PIN is taking money, not refunding it.
