Delivery scam

Fake parcel / customs fee

An SMS or WhatsApp message says a parcel is stuck unless a small customs fee is paid on a lookalike site.

Warning signs

  1. 01

You were not expecting a parcel, or the tracking number is not on the courier’s own site.

  2. 02

The link is a lookalike domain, not the courier you can open from your phone’s app.

  3. 03

The “customs” or “redelivery” fee is a small UPI request meant to be paid in a hurry.

  4. 04

The message uses a slightly wrong brand name or a WhatsApp number instead of the official app.

  5. 05

Paying once leads to a second, larger fee.

Customs duty is not collected by a random SMS link.
