Identity fraud

Aadhaar / PAN update link

A deadline SMS leads to a clone portal that captures an OTP and identity documents.

Warning signs

  1. 01

An SMS says Aadhaar or PAN will be deactivated unless you update it today.

  2. 02

The link is not uidai.gov.in or the PAN site you typed yourself.

  3. 03

It asks for Aadhaar number, PAN, and the OTP in one flow.

  4. 04

It wants a photo of the card “for verification”.

  5. 05

Nothing in your official account shows a pending deactivation.

UIDAI and the tax department do not deactivate an ID through a random SMS link.
